On the Friday of Independence Day weekend three MOVE members have publicly left and renounced MOVE as a cult, more will likely follow. The three individuals, June Stokes (known as Pixie Africa, and daughter of MOVE spokesperson, Pam Africa), Whit Sims (known as Whit Africa, daughter of Mike Africa Sr. and Debbie Africa of the MOVE 9, sister of Mike Africa Jr.), and Josh Robbins (known as Josh Africa, son on Mary and Mo Africa) have issued a public statement alleging child abuse of many forms, coercive control and predatory alienation, death threats and psychogical control, and financial crimes that extend back to the foundation of MOVE in 1972.
All three individuals have recorded many hours of testimony for the podcast, “Murder at Ryan’s Run”, which focuses on the unsolved 2002 murder of John Gilbride, the ex-husband of Alberta Africa, the elusive leader of MOVE. The three issued the statement alongside former longtime MOVE supporters, Kevin Price and Maiga Milbourne and issued the caution that “all of the testimony that is being released on the podcast is already recorded and is safely being stored in multiple places so that it can be released to authorities should the need arise. If any of us end up missing, are hurt, or are killed it will not stop our recordings from being released, it will only expedite the exposure of the reality of MOVE.”
These allegations come on the heels of the recent headlines about the handling of remains by the city and UPenn, the death of Consuewella Africa (public commemoration, July 3rd), Tuesday’s release of the Leaving MOVE blog (https://leavingmove2021.blogspot.com) by former MOVE supporter Kevin Price, and the release of two trailers for the “Murder at Ryan’s Run” podcast. Pam Africa’s daughter, June Stokes (Pixie Africa), has recorded testimony that she believes puts her life in extreme danger and has gone into hiding. She has stated that she has been told by MOVE’s leader, Alberta Africa, that if she ever speaks about the things she has witnessed that she will be killed.
