We're so grateful to all of those who have donated so graciously to the fundraisers for June Stokes (Pixie) and Maria Hardy. We're hoping that we can raise the $6000 needed for Maria to safely resettle out of Philly within the next week and that people can provide ongoing support for June, and her five kids, as they resettle and find safety. They both need much more financial support in order to build new lives. Also, if you know of women's groups or any other organizations that could help, please pass this info along.
It's hard to overemphasize how heroic and brave the actions of June, Josh, Whit, Sara, Salina, and Maria are. They took tremendous risks publicly telling their stories. You'll be hearing much more from them. They've faced potentially losing family members and other loved ones, faced the possibility of physical harm, and have been emotionally vulnerable publicly while processing deep trauma. In taking these actions they've protected other children in MOVE, defended themselves, cleared a path for others leaving cults, and have broken a destructive pattern that has run through MOVE for nearly 50 years. Pixie Africa/June Stokes has suffered serious abuse within the cult known as the MOVE Organization. On Friday, July 2nd, Pixie publicly spoke out against the group and with her 5 children, went into hiding. This GoFundMe is to provide funding for basic life needs while Pixie and her children are in hiding for their own safety.
During their first two weeks in hiding, their expenses were especially high as they had to be in short-term housing without using any of Pixie's accounts to completely protect their location. They are in more stable housing (for now) but still need community support to meet their needs. Pixie is currently caring for 5 kids while going through one of the greatest traumas of their lives. She is reliving what she endured within the MOVE cult as she tells her story and others learn it while prioritizing being a mother to her children. They need community funds to help cover food, entertainment for the kids, clothing, household needs, gas, mental health therapy, and more as they navigate this crisis. Help them through this time as they set up lives independent of MOVE for the first time ever.

Maria Hardy, formally known as Maria Africa, was born into the MOVE organization. She recently decided to publicly come forward to tell her story through the blog, Leaving MOVE, and the podcast, Murder at Ryan’s Run. By coming forward to reveal her truth Maria (along with other Ex-MOVE members) shed light on abuses including arranged child “marriages”, forced child pregnancy, and emotional/psychological abuse experienced by children in the organization. As you may have heard in the podcast episode she was featured in, Maria is concerned for her safety and hopes to put the trauma of her time in MOVE behind her. She doesn’t want this experience to define her and is working to pursue a long-held dream of moving away from Philadelphia where she won't be exposed to daily reminders of abuse. $6,000 will help Maria reach this goal and will sustain her for a few months while she looks for sustainable income away from Philadelphia.
The survivors of MOVE ask that the greater community show up in support to help them (and any other members who come forward) find their own definition of freedom and liberation. All funds will be directly deposited from this platform to Maria.
